Organic Grass-fed Ghee Giveaway – Why Grass-fed Is So Good For Health

www.mypicshares.com

Ghee is a gorgeous, traditional food that been used for generations of time. It is a food that has nourished people for thousands of years (as far back as 6,500 B.C.) and has provided outstanding nutritional benefit to those who consume it.

Like butter, ghee is a healthy saturated fat that contains fat-soluble vitamins and nutrients our bodies need. Along with Vitamins A, D, E, and K, critical to bone, brain, heart, and immune system function. Ghee is an abundant source of conjugated linoleic acid – an antioxidant and destroys free-radicals (think cancer), immune booster, and a friend to cardiovascular health. It is also contains lauric acid – useful in fighting fungus and candida.

I cannot say enough good things about Pure Indian Foods organic, grass-fed ghee. Our family has used their ghee for over a year and we love it for so many reasons. It is a fantastic food for cooking because it contains saturated fat, and is therefore very stable in high temperatures – so it can withstand heat up to at least 400 degrees F.

We use it for stir-frying vegetables, meat, eggs, pancakes, in baked goods or casseroles in the oven, and so many other types of cooking. You can also use it on your favorite bread and melt over popcorn, use it over rice, desserts like baked apples or pears, corn on the cob, hot cereals like soaked oatmeal, or baked potatoes. Its uses are literally endless! And its rich, buttery flavor makes it incredibly delicious.

Because ghee is made from butter, it possesses that rich, delicious taste that is satisfying, and can be used for almost any purpose you would use butter. It is a great “emergency survival food” because it does not need refrigeration and is shelf-stable. We almost always take a jar of ghee with us when we go on trips in case we don’t have a good source of grass-fed butter wherever we are headed.

Because this food is so amazing, I am hosting a giveaway to win two 14 oz jar of Pure Indian Food’s Grassfed Organic Ghee and a Sampler Pack. The owner, Sandeep Agarwal, is dedicated to bringing healthy products to his customers, and his family business has been doing so since 1889. I am thankful of his graciousness in providing this great sampler pack of products for a lucky winner.

What is ghee?

From the Pure Indian Foods web site:

“Golden colored Ghee is prepared by melting and simmering unsalted butter until all the water evaporates and the milk solids settle at the bottom. The remaining butter oil is very stable, giving it a high smoke point which makes it an excellent choice to use for frying and sauteéing and it can be stored without refrigeration for several months. Ghee is also known as Indian Clarified Butter, Seafood Butter, Drawn Butter, Butter Oil, Ghee Butter or Anhydrous Milk Fat (AMF). In India and other South Asian countries, it is also known as Desi Ghee, Pure Ghee, Asli Ghee or Ghritam. Ghee is a dairy product and as such it is gluten-free.

Ghee health benefits

Foods such as butter and ghee from grass-fed cows contain important nutrients for health – Vitamins A, D, and K. Dr. Weston A. Price found that in populations he visited where people were eating these foods, their health was robust.  Their bone structures were healthy and they lacked the dental diseases and deformities of those living in developed countries and who ate processed foods. Bone health is absolutely dependent upon the correct, synergistic combination of Vitamins A, D, and K.

Why grass-fed is important

Because cows are ruminants, they are intended to eat grass – not grain. Butter and ghee from pastured cows is superior to its conventional counterpart because it contains more conjugated linoleic acid (CLA), an important essential fatty acid which is a great protector of cardiovascular health, and also helps diminish the risk of cancer due to its anti-carcinogenic properties.

Many people who have allergies to dairy have even found that they could consume ghee without issue. In the process of clarification of ghee, “milk solids are removed, leaving the healthy butter fats behind. Small, trace amounts of casein and lactose can possibly remain in the ghee, but unless a person is extremely sensitive, consuming ghee will be fine, even if dairy is not.” If you are in doubt, you might try a small amount at first to see if you have any sensitivities.

I entered the contest and liked the two pages! Thanks for the opportunity to win such a great products!!!! I love it!!!

Raine, where do you get yours? Do you order it or get if from the Co-op? My mom just sent me some and we love it. I’m gonna have to get more.

I followed the link and registered. I’ve been wanting to try ghee. Thanks for the chance to win some. 🙂

I’ve signed up for the giveaway at their site and followed them on Twitter (it seems worthwhile regardless!). Thank you for the opportunity, I’ve always wanted to try ghee!

Hi Tara – we buy ours by the case from Pure Indian Foods. We normally only buy it about once every six months or so because the case we order contains 8 jars. The price is better when you buy more. I think I spend about $68 with shipping 2x a year. It’s a great deal and love having “emergency” preparedness food around that’s so nutritious! I’ve seen ghee at the Co-op, but none of it is organic and I’m certain it’s not from grass-fed cows either. 🙂

I checked out that site… I’ve been wanting to try ghee for a while now! It’d be awesome to win some! 🙂

I love Pure Indian Foods Ghee! I haven’t tried the “flavored ones” yet as I didn’t want to spend so much on the off chance I didn’t like them, but this would be a great way to see which ones I like best!
